YOFonts STANDARD About Philo

Philo family has three complements: alphabet, Japanese kata-kana and hira-gana. The unfinished 1st version was, in alphabet and kata-kana, designed in 1995. In 1998, I started to redesign this, adding the hira-gana complement. At the time of 1995, a version for alphabet was nearly completed, and had variations for upper cases and lower cases. But this time, going with Japanese kata-kana and hira-gana, some characters came to share their shapes, so, I had to redesign almost characters. There came no variations for upper cases or lower cases at the result. The 1st version for kata-kana, I felt difficulty in its design with alphabet, so, I quitted at the half way. From this experience, I began to design from Hiragana for its complex form, then Katakana, Alphabet at last. Originally, It was made for my own cassette tape (Yamaocan Mood). Another version of this, is Mod Quad.

Philo is designed by Yamaoka Yasuhiro 1995-1998.
